Why are some people free and others not...
What were the conditions that granted freedom to some people in the world and not to the rest of the world. Why is it okay for me to be gay in this country but not for somebody in Jamaica for example? Is it capitalism that made homosexuality acceptable? Is it religious descent?
Regardless of the conditions that had to be met for such liberty, why are there global inconsistencies in meeting these conditions of liberty? Geography? Poverty? Wealth? War? Colour? Ethnicity? Climate?
Is it a combination of these factors? Food for thought? Comments much welcome...
This is indeed a topic I will return to.

I think the answer is "the CULTURE". POverty is not a real base for example Cuba is not a rich country and United Arab Emirates is a rich country, the both country is ahot weather country differently one is tropical caraiban island the other a land of arabic penisula in the middle east. However, cuban people seems to be live their sexuality more free. I think the regarding of sexuality depends a historical accumulation of a country. It includes the religion, the historical events that effected the collectif memory and other customs of casual life generated by the accumulation of centuries. What I see, more a country is open, the citizens become more open mind and open mindness breaks the old traditions and prejudices. I shall give you a simple example from my city, Izmir : if you are gay in Alsancak quartier, it is normal (I hate this word), we ignore you or just laugh behind of you...but if you are gay in Karşıyaka, it may happen some problems like the owner wouldn't like to rent you his/her flat, or your neighbours can blame you as a "degenerated sexo-maniac" or just intictly frightened because you are different. Sometimes even you don't watch a football game can be shock by your collegues or neighbours. The best is to be honest to explain that we are also human kinds like straight people. Maybe you can add a Mona Lisa smile...and now you're perfect !
Thanks Hasan... I also hate the work 'Normal'... I think you picked an important term 'a collective memory'... This is similar to the concept of 'nation states'... The history of a country, culture, religion, etc are the contributing factors that lead to an inconsistency in the meeting of the conditions for freedom...
I believe there are 2 factors that created this inconsistency i) The concept of nation states or imagined communities, a collective consciousness that stops the flow of ideas between 'nations', so communities in the past have become blind to various happenings around them, and ii) Geography, this is because prior to transportation methods we take for granted today, communities were geographically isolated from each other.
So essentially I'm interested in why there are inconsistency's between nations rather than the factors involved in the level of freedom in one country compared to another...
I think it is much more complicated then we think, you know already main factors. The strange thing there is no one formula the mixture of all things that you cite above makes the differences. Despite all of these points, we are able to be free it's enough to communicate much more with others and to understand that we are all different and this difference makes the huanity rich, each variety adds one step forward. So it will be stereotypical but I will say "we need every color even though we don't like or we don't understand".
Therefore the communication deepends the conddition on transportation and technology. More you travel more you see the differences and you are able to compare much more things instead of being contented with the things that we are used to do. In addition to this the media is very important, movies, TV, newspapers and internet have so much influence today. Before people used to talk and transmit this famous "collective memory", now the media has become the big support of it. Though it could be more useful...to make progress the human kinds having the potentiels of create a new peaceful world. We are too attected to our normals and habits.
